Mobile Health Teams
The Pacific Islands are made up of Polynesia, Micronesia, and Melanesia, with about 30,000 islands spanning 63.8 million square miles.
Pacific Islanders are 37% more likely to suffer chronic disease and have a mortality rate 10 years below global average.
Pacific Islanders see medical providers only 2 times per year.
Our mobile Health Teams Program provide isolated communities with specialized Healthcare access. Our focus is preventing disease resulting in islanders needing to leave their homes to seek medical care, as well as provide treatment for disease which are rarely or not currently available to the local population.
Pacific Living
Cultural beliefs and practices directly impact community and Individual Health decisions.
Community & Culture are significant determinants of health and require consideration to optimize health outcomes.
Culture is integral to community health and well-being. Our Pacific Life program promotes health and wellness by integrating traditional practices, customs, and arts. We also promote cross cultural and generational relationships by providing communal opportunities to share and practice.
Manu’u Movement
A study of NHPI physical activity found 20% of participants met recommendations and demonstrated a 94% rate for being overweight or obese.
30 mins of exercise a day reduces the chance of heart disease, diabetes.
Pacific Islanders have long been active in the water and sports like Swimming, Surfing, Canoeing have long been vital aspects of culture. Pairing Health through movement with the cultural activities of the pacific, Manu’u Movement aims to re-engage community members of all ages in cultural sports.
Community Health Education
Studies document low Health literacy among Pacific Islander populations in New Zealand, Samoa, and Hawaii.
Patients with inadequate health literacy are less likely to seek and receive medical attention and more likely to suffer from diabetes and depression.
We share Health knowledge in culturally appropriate ways. Health service providers and community co-creating curriculum. We use Pacific Islander culture to improve health literacy in three key areas.
Understanding of the connections between cultural practices and maintaining overall health,
To provide opportunities to develop cultural skills to improve health,
To foster individual and collective well-being through Traditional, Art-Based, Interactive, and Technology Based Education.
Spiritual Growth
Higher levels of religious attendance are predictive of a strong, consistent and often graded reduction in mortality risk
As an organization, we believe that Mind, Body and Spirit are connected, and Health requires cultivation of all three.
Our Spiritual Growth Program provides community members opportunities to learn and grow in their relationship with Christ and its practical applications in living a balanced, Healthy life.
